First, I have to share a little funny story. I put this on and forgot to cross the straps so I thought it looked strange and didn’t fit at all until much later I realized I didn’t cross the straps before I tied it. Overall I love the look of the dress, however, it was way too big for me. I’m a little worried that my home try on was either stretched out from being tried on or the size guide isn’t accurate. I do have a small bust so I expected the top to be a little big but I think a smaller size would fit better everywhere.

I ordered three dresses from Revelry for home try-on: 1. ) Athena Velvet Dress (size 4), 2. ) Athena Velvet Dress (size 6) & 3. ) Faith Velvet Dress (size 4). I based my selections on my measurements and the Revelry sizing chart.

The Faith dress arrived with a damaged seam.

The two Athena dresses arrived in perfect condition. I tried them on at home and then brought them to the woman who will do my alterations for her feedback. I knew that I'd need alterations because I'm much smaller up top than in my hips. I've always been in the A or B range with bras. After having two kids and nursing both I'm 36AA in Pepper bras. My hips usually put me in the 8 or 10 range for pants but with Revelry's sizing chart a 4 or 6 works (with their velvet which is semi-stretch).

Initially I thought the size 4 was a better fit, given that I felt like I was swimming in the 6. After talking with my alterations woman and staff @ Revelry, I will actually go with the 6 and alter it down.

The boning in the built in bra of the Athena was really weird for me. It didn't hit my breasts at the right height and the boning even seemed to be reversed, in terms of how the curve was facing (as in it wouldn't support anyone's breasts in that position- just bizarre). The woman who will do my alterations said she plans to take the boning out completely and just put cups in for me. She will take in the top (quite a bit) and take in the hips a little. We might end up shortening it depending on what shoes I wear.…
