How to Stand out as the Maid of Honor

Styled Shoot with Dreamer Events

Everyone knows how special every brides’ wedding day is for her, but what makes it even better is how much it also means to her favorite people. Being a maid of honor is a big deal and there’s lots of ways to show that.

We teamed up with Dreamer Events to show all the best ways to stand out as the maid of honor.

Finding THE dress

It’s pretty common that the maid of honor is there every step of the way for wedding planning, including accompanying the bride at her dress appointments. She is one of the few people who get to see the gown before the day. A great way to stand out as maid of honor is playing off a design element in the bride’s dress for her own look!

Our Thea, a romantic tulle style, is a perfect compliment to most A-line bridal gowns. The deep-v neckline and flutter sleeves add an element of whimsy, especially next to this bride’s classic sweetheart neckline gown.

Get Your Glam On

Another way to distinguish a maid of honor is by getting the full beauty treatment and giving the bride someone to get ready with. When she is standing behind the bride at the altar, she will elevate the moment beaming just as bright.

While our bride got a more dramatic look, our maid of honor kept things subtle with a soft glam and neutral tones. We opted for a half-up half-down look to create a more casual version of the bride’s curled updo.

Remember to Accessorize

It’s all in the details. Giving the maid of honor an extra flair can help make her feel extra important for all her special duties. The accessory itself can be anything from florals, to statement jewelry, to a gorgeous clip. It also dresses up the bridal party more from regular guests at formal affairs.

“Give your girls an accessory for the day and night. Hair comb, halos, floral tucks and so much more. Oh sure you can still do a small bouquet, we did here.” -Erin Olson, Planner and Designer

Nail Your Toast

Giving a speech is the number one thing that distinguishes a maid of honor from the other bridesmaids. It is such a good opportunity to highlight your relationship with the bride and communicate how special this occasion is for her and her new spouse. When writing the toast, the maid of honor should sprinkle in moments that tickle you with laughter and pull at your heartstrings. Keep it authentic to your story and wish the best for the happy couple.

At the end of the day, your bestie will be grateful just to have you by her side. The most important thing is to enjoy all the memories of the wedding and experiencing these milestones together!

A special thanks to our vendors!
